Since 1969, San Diego Miramar College has trained more than 10,000 law enforcement and firefighter professionals. Since those early days, in addition to our well-respected public safety graduates, highly skilled diesel, automotive and FAA-certified aviation technicians, EMTs, biotechnicians, paralegal, computer and child development professionals have walked across our commencement stage.
Add to those numbers the many thousands of Miramar College students who have successfully transferred to four-year colleges and universities to continue their higher education and you can see why we are proud of our legacy. If you are equally proud to have graduated or transferred from Miramar college, join the Alumni Club. If you attended Miramar College, we'd like to hear from you!

In 1995, the College began a tradition of recognizing Distinguished Alumni at annual commencement ceremonies. The following individuals are an inspiration for all students.
On May 21st, 2009, San Diego Miramar College President Dr. Patricia Hsieh and Miramar College Foundation President Marty Hight presented the college's 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award to former national judo champion and U.S. Olympics competitor Valerie (Lafon) Gotay of Temecula, originally of Mira Mesa. At only 16, she competed at the Barcelona Olympics; dropped out of her sport and ultimately dropped into college in 1992. Gotay transferred from Miramar to SDSU as a psychology major; left as a junior, became a wife, and mother of two before she headed back to judo competition at 34—10 years older than any of her teammates. According to Hsieh, "Valerie's achievements while at Miramar, her accomplishments as an athlete, and persistence and dedication to be the best in the world through Olympic competition, despite setbacks and years of absence make her a perfect choice to inspire students moving on to the next phase of their lives."
