The Center seeks to stimulate the children’s social, mental, emotional, creative, and physical growth through meaningful play experiences. Play offers children rich opportunities in creative expression, self-discovery, and manipulation of materials, exploration, and social relationships. It is through play that children learn about their world and themselves. Such activities as painting, climbing, building with blocks, woodworking and dramatic role playing encourage children to develop their own interests and to practice important life skills that involve every aspect of children’s growth and development.
Learning is at an optimum when children are encouraged to select their own activities, make their own choices, set their own pace, and make their own discoveries. Different activity centers will be arranged throughout the room with appropriate materials made readily available. Teacher directed activities will enhance the daily program, stimulate children’s learning and encourage an appreciation of different cultural and ethnic customs and lifestyles. Guidance will be in the form of positive reinforcement and rechanneling of inappropriate behavior. |
